NURS 538 - Individual, Family and Group Psychotherapy 3.00 credit hours This course provides a comprehensive examination of the foundational theories of psychotherapy including psycho-dynamic, psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal. The theories of personality development and group psychotherapy are explored. The focus is to provide advanced nurse practitioners the opportunity to examine the role of therapy in mental health promotion and symptom reduction. Various concepts and applications of techniques including advanced interviewing skills will be developed related to individual, person-centered psychotherapy, family and group psychotherapy. Emphasis is placed on analysis of the legal and ethical role of the advanced practice psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner working independently and in inter-professional care teams and settings.
