NURS 537 - Assessment and Management of Addictive Disorders 2.00 credit hours This course focuses on the role of the advanced nurse practitioner in mental health and addictions in the context of care in the areas of substance-related and addictive disorders including the use of stimulants and benzodiazepines, opioids, alcohol and cannabis. Behavioral addictions will also be discussed. This course content addresses care for patients with addictive disorders across the lifespan, with an emphasis on trans-disciplinary approaches which are essential for understanding and combating addiction disorders. Impact of addiction on the family and society and to public policy issues addressing the prevention of addiction will be explored.
