Mission Statement
The mission of the Computer Science and Engineering Department is to create effective problem solvers who understand and can apply the principles of computer science and computer engineering to meet the needs of society.
The Computer Science and Engineering Department offers undergraduate programs that consider industry trends as well as guidelines from the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Our courses and programs are developed and reviewed accordingly with input from various constituents including industry advisors and alumni. The computer engineering program is continuously reviewed according to ABET guidelines.
Both the computer science and computer engineering programs focus on:
- Building strong foundational concepts with emphasis on hands-on learning and applications;
- Development of strong problem-solving skills leading to the construction of effective solutions;
- Development of effective communication and group work skills;
- Industry-relevant projects through both traditional coursework as well as co-curricular activities (e.g., student club projects, academic research, internship, etc.).

Information systems are important as computers have become an essential tool for data management, analysis and decision-making in virtually all disciplines. INFS courses merge technical and application fundamentals so students can become effective developers and users of computer applications to support their major field of study.
