Mission Statement

Genders and sexualities shape identities and institutions, nations and economies, cultures and political systems and hierarchies. The study of gender and sexuality, then, explains important aspects of our personal lives and power structures. Gender and Sexuality Studies (GSST) at North Central College allows students the opportunity to shape an interdisciplinary minor that emphasizes the interrelationships among gender, sexuality, race and class, connecting such inquiry nationally and globally. In communication, history, literature, religion, philosophy, social sciences and life sciences, GSST minors learn to practice critical thinking about issues of the construction of gender and sexual identity.
