MEDI 275 - AI Literacy

4.00 credit hours
Students will learn to think critically about AI and the hype that often surrounds the emergence of “new” technologies. Focusing on media literacy, or the critical analysis of stories presented in mass media, this course examines the rise of AI and its intended and unintended consequences. Draing on a wide range of media artifacts - from popular representations of AI in films, advertisements and press coverage to some of the most hotly contested academic debates in the field - this course will give students a framework through which to critically examine the stories we tell ourselves about technology (and who these stories ultimately benefit), as well as the opportunity to develop their own ethical toolkits to guide their engagement with AI in college and beyond.

Cardinal Directions Designation(s): Humanities, Ethical Dimensions, U.S. Power Structures.
