COMM 220 - Transformative Oral Storytelling

2.00 credit hours
A distrinctly human endeavor, storytelling serves to interpret past and present, project a future, encourage empathy, inspire others to act, and identify transformative moments in our lives that make us who we are and who we want to become in our personal, social, and professional lives. Storytellers excel in all fields: engineering, medicine, marketing and sales, communication, and of course, the arts. Students will learn the power of effective storytelling, grounded in communication theory and narrative structures most effective at evoking a powerful and meaningful audience response. Students will leave with a portfolio of stories they can take into any situation. This course explores the art of oral storytelling as a powerful form of human communication. Through listening, writing, rehearsing, and performing, students will learn how to captivate audiences with stories that are authentic, engaging, and memorable.
