ENGL 304 - Global Shakespeare: Shakespeare in the World4.00 credit hours An examination of the aesthetics and techniques of interpreting Shakespeare, providing an introduction to reading and writing about Shakespeare’s plays. It will also provide a window to a larger discussion about culture shaping texts and texts shaping culture. We will justapose Shakespeare’s texts with modern adaptations. Our method switches between close reading, socio-historical analysis, and examinations into why Shakespeare’s plays inspire global adaptation. Credit may not be earned for both ENGL*304 AND ENGL*302.
Prerequisite(s): ENGL 200 or Junior standing. Cardinal Directions Designation(s): Writing Intensive, Global Understanding. iCon(s): Thinking Globally.
