POLS 220 - First Ladies: Symbol of American Womanhood4.00 credit hours A theoretical examination of the evolving role of the first lady from party hostess to policy advocate. While discussions of first ladies have often been relegated to internal dynamics of their relationships with their husbands, redecorating, and clothing, we will dive into the nuanced job of the first lady by reading the scholarship, while scant, on the progressing role of the first lady. Specific attention is paid to particular first ladies who have made significant impacts in the way the first lady is expected to behave.
Cardinal Directions Designation(s): Social Sciences, U.S. Power Structures.
