MLS 612 - Changing Concepts of the Earth and Its Life 3.00 credit hours An investigation of the history of geology and evolutionary biology. The course begins with Darwin’s theory of adaptive evolution under uniform and regular geological conditions and ends with Gould’s theory of punctuated equilibrium acting under cyclically catastrophic geological conditions. The effects of an increasingly contingent view of our origin as a species will also be investigated.
Prerequisite(s): MLS 510 ; MLS 610 recommended.
