Master of Athletic Training Admission Requirements


Application Process and Admission Requirements

  1. ATCAS Application
    All applicants must apply online via the online application service ATCAS https://atcas.liaisoncas.com/applicant-ux/#/login. Review all ATCAS and North Central College specific instructions prior to completing the application process. For admission consideration, applicants are required to submit the following to ATCAS:
    1. Verification of completion of a minimum of fifty observation hours under the supervision of one or more certified athletic trainers
    2. Professional resume
    3. Personal statement responding to the following prompt: Athletic trainers are allied health professionals. Describe your reasons for wanting to become an athletic trainer and how you feel you will make a difference in the lives of your patients if you become an athletic trainer.
    4. Official transcripts from each institution attended. An earned, four-year bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university prior to matriculation is required. Evidence of earning a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale is also required to be considered for an interview.
      1. Prerequisite coursework must be completed no earlier than summer 2014 and have a grade of C or above. Prerequisites may be in progress at the time of application, but must be completed prior to the start of the program if you are accepted. Advanced placement credit may not be used to fulfill prerequisite coursework. Prerequisites include the following courses:
        Course Semester Hours
        Biology with laboratory 3-4
        Chemistry with laboratory 3-4
        Physics with laboratory 3-4
        Introductory or Developmental Psychology 3-4
        Human Anatomy and Physiology* 5-8
        Statistics or Research Design 3-4
        Exercise Physiology 3-4
        Biomechanics or Kinesiology 2-4
        *Two-semester sequence or 3-4 credit hour course in Human Anatomy and 2-4 credit hour course in Human Physiology
    5. Three letters of reference:
      1. One letter from a faculty member
      2. One letter from the supervising athletic trainer of observation hours
      3. One letter from a professional reference
  2. Application Review and Interview Decisions
    Completed applications are reviewed throughout the admission cycle. Applications will not be reviewed until all required application materials have been submitted to and verified by ATCAS. Unverified applications will not be reviewed. Interviews are conducted and admission decisions are made until the class is filled. Interviews typically begin in the fall. Qualified candidates will be notified by mail if they are selected.
  3. Interview by Invitation Process
    Applicants must meet all the admission requirements listed to be considered for an interview. Applicants will be notified if they are invited to an interview session.  An interview does not guarantee admission into the program.
